This morning the Vatican’s doctrine office released Venite ad Me, Cardinal Fernández’s new document on passing on the faith. It’s right about the problem: the faith isn’t reaching the next generation. But its cure is the same “experience over doctrine” approach the Church has tried since the 1970s, and that approach helped cause the crisis. We go through what the document gets right, where it sidelines doctrine, and what Catholic families should actually do to hand on the faith.
