With less than a month to go before the mid-term elections, and with Catholic Democrats who voted for Obamacare in trouble, the Catholic Health Association is determined to do all it can to help remove the stigma.
As everyone should know by now, Sr. Carol Keehan, CHA president, has been in the foreground of those insisting there is no abortion funding in the health care bill in spite of the bishops’ insistence to the contrary.

(In the image above, Sr. Keehan proudly holds aloft the presidential pen she was given by Obama after he signed the health care bill containing federal funding for abortion.)
On the front page of the CHA web site, you will find an announcement of their “Heath Care Reform Webinar” from 2 to 3 p.m. on October 21.
You can also download their new 20-page booklet, “Realizing Our Vision for U.S. Health Care.” The second paragraph contains the following statement (emphasis added):
In 2010, President Obama signed into law an historic health reform measure that provides coverage for an additional 32 million people. CHA worked closely with members of Congress, the White House and other groups to make sure that the legislation protects life from conception to natural death. The law provides no federal funding of abortion and maintains important conscience protections for health care providers and institutions.
Once again, this assertion is directly contradicted by the Catholic bishops, National Right to Life, Priests for Life, Susan B. Anthony List, and every pro-life group in the nation.
How Sr. Carol Keehan retains her various committee seats and advisory role at the USCCB is puzzling given the number of unborn lives that will be lost by the massive influx of federal funding into the nation’s abortion industry.
Surely some sort of showdown is coming. Sr. Keehan and CHA have neither nuanced their position nor have they disappeared into the background of the debate — they remain at the forefront of Catholics shilling for Obamacare.
