Friday Free-for-All

Good morning! A few links to start your day:

  • Well that didn’t take long: With CBS having already accepted Tim Tebow’s pro-life ad to run during the Super Bowl, a gay dating Web site has also submitted an ad for consideration. But as all the spots are already filled for next Sunday, it largely looks like a political gesture:

ManCrunch officials said they believe CBS has no intention of airing a commercial for their gay dating service, “but do not want to officially ‘reject’ the spot out of fear there may be a backlash from gay advocacy groups.”

  • Howard Zinn, the author of A People’s History of the United States, passed away earlier this week. Most obituaries have had nothing but glowing praise for his seminal work, but the New Criterion views A People’s History much differently:

The astonishing career of A People’s History is an object lesson in how little criticism matters, or perhaps we should say it is an object lesson in how certain sentimental narratives can utterly overwhelm criticism, be it ever so accurate and eloquent.
