Hedonics and how to make it work for you

PUBLISHED ON

This sort of thing is usually Brian’s department, but I stumbled across this Youtube video, part of a long series from businessman and pop-economist Chris Martenson, and just had to share. First because it gives a little taste of how macroeconomics is darn near alchemy in its almost fanciful complexity. And secondly because of its explanation of how governmental statistics-keepers have a vested interest in manipulating numbers — in this case, inflation figures — to generate rosy stats for political benefit. Sobering stuff; if its insinuations are even half-true it leaves one without much confidence that our captains will be able to steer a sure course out of this economic Sargasso we’re in. And I learned some new words!
