There are two reasons I particularly enjoy reading The Telegraph’s (UK) Damian Thompson. The first is his aggressive-yet-even-handed defense of Catholic matters in an environment that seems primarily hostile. And the second is his ability to come up with something to say when confronted by such things as this recently-released image of the altar planned for the Beatification of Cardinal Newman in Cofton Park:
I’m too depressed to say anything – except that, once again, the aesthetic vision of the late L Ron Hubbard seems to have inspired the Bishops’ Conference.

“Billions of Blistering Blue Barnacles!!!” — my reaction — might convey the same general sentiment, but it’s not quite as eloquent. Or as catchy. Still, it might serve us well to remember that this is only temporary, and things could be much worse. I suppose we can always take some comfort there.
