Carl Theodor Dreyer, the Danish director responsible for creating Almost-Certainly-The-Greatest-Silent-Film-Of-All-Time, has finally received our technocratic society’s greatest honor: his very own website.
Welcome to the Carl Theodor Dreyer website, an expansive initiative of the DFI, making transparent and accessible the unique Carl Theodor Dreyer Collection. The aim of this site is to disseminate knowledge about Dreyer and shed light on new sides of his work and his life.
While I strongly suspect that a familiarity with the Danish language would make the website experience a great deal richer — the Dreyer Archives, for example, contain a fantastically large number of original writings. In Danish. Which I can’t read. — there are many fascinating areas to explore. The “Film and Sound Clips” section is a gold-mine, as is the section on Dreyer’s collaborators. (The “aspiring cinematographer” of my increasingly-distant past is particularly ecstatic over the Visual Style pages.)
