When Dolphin Persons Attack

PUBLISHED ON

January 20, 2010

When I happened across this clip a few days ago, I immediately thought of Zoe’s recent post on the smartness (and potential “personhood”) of dolphins:

For those who might not recognize the narrator immediately, that’s Sir David Attenborough. He’s the “star” of the twin BBC productions, The Blue Planet and Planet Earth. They are absolutely fantastic; I cannot possibly recommend them enough. (The rambunctious Susanka boys have spent many an hour of silent, spellbound amazement in Sir Attenborough’s clutches.)

This latest video, however, is from the newly-released Life series, of which I have been shamefully unaware until now. Discovery Channel Canada has already picked it up, and the US version appears to be close behind. (Why someone would replace Attenborough with Oprah is a completely mystery to me, though. His boundless energy and obvious enthusiasm for his subject is a large part of the series’ appeal.)
