Worth a thousand words…

This photo was taken by a photographer friend at the “Flags In” ceremony on Friday at Arlington National Cemetery. More than 250,000 flags were placed in preparation for today by members of the Armed Forces. Each flag is inserted one boot length from (and in the center of) each grave stone. My friend always wanted to attend this event; she shares her experience — and more of her lovely photos — here

For another visual tribute, I want to point you to the popular mom blog called Pioneer Woman, operated by Ree Drummond, a ranch wife in Oklahoma. Among other things, Drummond runs regular photography contests, and this weekend’s set has been the most moving. The theme is  “Coming Home.”

Grab a tissue and take a look at the photos people have sent in so far. This one, taken by Sarah Cooper, really got me.
