In the now infamous exchange between Tucker Carlson and British politician Jacob Rees-Mogg, Rees-Mogg said that Britishers needed to prepare for war with Russia.
Rees-Mogg is not the only European plumping for what would be a global war. Two weeks ago, the Danish intelligence service laid out the arguments that Russia is already at war with NATO.
The report asserts, “The security situation has deteriorated further. Russia has intensified its use of sabotage, destructive cyber-attacks and is attacking targets in Europe with drones. The hybrid war is escalating.”
Apparently, there was a foiled drone attack on a Ukrainian cargo plane at the Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany, which, according to the Danish report, German officials say “had been planned by Russia over a period of several months.” The drone failed to explode. The German government says that was only the tip of the drone iceberg. The German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) claims the Russians have launched more than 1,000 drone flights over military sites and critical infrastructure in 2025, plus 321 suspected cases of sabotage.
The Danes also talk about an incident in the Baltic Sea in September “when a Russian frigate in the waters off Gedzer fired flares at a Danish military helicopter…”
Rees-Mogg is not the only European plumping for what would be a global war.Tweet ThisA year ago, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said, “We are not at war, but we are also no longer at peace.” Not long after that statement, the head of the German intelligence service Martin Jäger warned that Europe was living in an “icy peace” and that a hot war could come at any time. “We are already under fire today,” he said at a public hearing of the Bundestag’s intelligence oversight committee.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said, “We are not at war, but we are a daily target of hybrid warfare.” As a warning of impending doom, consulates and other diplomatic outposts are being closed, including the Russian consulate general in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin. Poland and Germany have already closed diplomatic offices in Kaliningrad.
Do you have any idea where Kaliningrad is or what Kaliningrad is? Are you ready to send American troops to Kaliningrad? Are you ready to have a nuclear exchange over Kaliningrad?
Kaliningrad is roughly 6,000 square miles of land now in Russia, nestled between Poland to the south, Lithuania to the north, and the Baltic Sea to the west. Over the centuries, it has shifted between countries, including Germany. Today, it is the site of Russia’s only Baltic Sea port without winter ice. It is also home to a plethora of Russian military personnel and hardware, including nuclear capability.
In recent months, a war of words has erupted between Russia, NATO, and various European capitals. Russia has warned NATO of dire, even nuclear, consequences if NATO countries try to isolate Kaliningrad from the rest of Russia.
NATO chief Mark Rutte said last December, “We are Russia’s next target.” He said allies needed to prevent a war “on the scale of war our grandparents and great-grandparents endured.”
The French defense chief said that forces should be ready “in three or four years for a shock,” i.e., a confrontation with Russia.
Are you ready to send American troops to Kaliningrad? Are you ready to have a nuclear exchange over Kaliningrad?Tweet ThisIt very well could be that Russia shot flares at a helicopter in the Baltic Sea. It very well could be that Russia is sending drones over NATO countries. It very well could be that Russia is targeting sabotage attacks against European defense industries. Russian subs could be sniffing around transatlantic cables. All of this very well could be true. But what is quite obviously true is that the war party is pushing for what would be a global conflagration that would kill millions. Is it the Russians? Or is it the Europeans?
On the other hand, I am old enough to remember the Gulf of Tonkin incident, a phony attack that acted as a pretext for the United States going to war in Vietnam. I am old enough to remember all those chemical weapons the Bushies said were piled high as the sky in Iraq. And then history shows us how the accidental explosion of the USS Maine brought the United States into war with Spain.
One thing that has changed for me, and maybe for you, over the past decade or more is my understanding that governments and the media lie, lie, and then lie a whole lot more. We saw this with so many hoaxes perpetrated against Donald Trump. We saw this most clearly during the COVID crisis. I am inclined not to believe the establishment elites in my own government, and I am profoundly disinclined to believe the establishment elites in foreign governments.
